The Minnesota Songwriter Sanctuary (MSS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and professional-grade, 32-channel recording studio offering free and low-cost access to talented songwriters from Minnesota and beyond. We’re breaking down barriers to music production for rural, low-income, and marginalized artists by providing the tools, mentorship, and opportunities they need to thrive.

At the core of MSS is, the Sanctuary, our state-of-the-art recording studio, where artists record, collaborate, and bring their visions to life. We partner with schools to offer music instruction and audio engineering internships, giving students real-world experience and creative outlets.

We also support above-average musicians and audio engineers by offering paid work or studio credit for their own projects when they help others bring their musical visions to life. Bands can also earn free studio time by playing concerts in Henderson, MN as part of our Down at the Bottom concert series.

Through access, mentorship, and community, MSS is building a more equitable music ecosystem—one where all voices are heard, valued, and empowered.
